But club owner and former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi believes the Brazilian striker can recover after rupturing a tendon in his left knee.
The 31-year-old centre-forward was was writing in agony after the incident against Livorno and is expected to go under the surgeon´s knife in the next few days. Ronaldo will seek medical help from surgeon Gerard Saillant. Frenchman Saillant treated Ronaldo for a similar injury to his other knee in 2000.
"At 31 Ronaldo is still very young," said Berlusconi of the Brazilian. He added: "I´d like to think within a few months he could return to being the champion that we all know him as." It is thought he will face up to nine months out after the shocking injury. Any player who has suffered this type of injury has very rarely made a full recovery
