Amelie started being interested in tennis when she was 4 and was watching a match between Yannick Noah and Mats Wilander. Shortly after that, Amelie received a racket from her parents and that was the start of a brilliant career. Throughout her youth, she was always playing against older, more experienced players but always showed great talent.
In 1988, she was contacted by the French Federation and offered to train with the elite of her age, offer that she accepted of course. In the juniors, Amelie had tremendous success even winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year (1996). That is how Amelie got to the level where she is right now.
Up to now, her pro highlight is without any doubt her final at the Australian Open in 1999 where she was eventually defeated by #1 player Martina Hingis.
