Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp maintains that he is very happy living down on the south coast after UK bookmakers made him the favourite to take over from sacked Sam Allardyce as Newcastle supremo. His side are rated at 12/1 betting odds to win the 2008 English FA Cup.
It is believed that Alan Shearer was one of the front runners for the post. Shearer has zero managerial ability but is considered a legend on Tyneside, despite never winning anything with his boyhood club. However, the the BBC (Shearer´s current employers) report that Shearer is more interested in continuing in his Match of the Day TV role.
As such, Redknapp, who has been dogged in the past with rumours of illegal betting has been labelled the new favouri emerged as the new favourite. However, Redknapp was quick to play down speculation. Speaking to his local paper in Portsmouth he said: "I really do not know anything about this. I have not spoken to anyone from Newcastle. When I saw Sam had left my immediate thoughts were that Alan Shearer was a certainty to take over. There's nothing in my being linked with the job.
"I had an offer not so long ago to take over at what I consider a massive club but I didn't go. I am happy down on the south coast." Looks like Harry is a little to savvy to consider taking over what is now a posioned chalice.
