Laser beam Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been zapped by a laser beam at his club's European match against Lyon. Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo was left dazzled near the start of the 1-1 draw against Lyon in the Champions League.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was furious: "We reported the matter to UEFA before the game. We noticed it in the warm-up and they are aware of it." The incident will be investigated by Uefa. Highly rated Karim Benzema scored a fine goal for Lyon in the 54th minute. But Carlos Tevez came off the subs bench to level the tie three minutes from a superb Nani cross. The Red Devils are now set for a place in quarter-finals. The teams again face one another in the second leg at Old Trafford in a fortnight.

Forward Wayne Rooney was in confident mood: "It is always crucial to get an away goal and 1-1 is a lot better than 1-0. It was a crucial goal to take back to Old Trafford. "I felt we controlled the game for most of it. They had a few chances and stuck the ball in. "Lyon are a good team and we know we have to concentrate 100%." The United manager added: "We aee now in control. With our attacking options we had on the bench and being 1-0 down, we were always going to make changes."
