Novak Djokovic shocked the world by beating world number one Roger Federer in the semi finals of the Australian Open. He not only beat Federer but Djokovic put a beatdown on the Swiss tennis ace. He gave Roger his first straight-set defeat at the Grand Slam level since 2004. With this defeat, Roger Federer will look to win the one Grand Slam event that has eluded him; the French Open. He has won all other Grand Slam but he has not been able to conquer the red clay at Roland-Garros as Rafeal Nadal has beat Federer in the last two clay court finals. Has Federer lost a step or is Djokovic the next best thing in tennis that will give the Roger some sort of competition?
People have called Federer the best player of this generation and some have even said he is the best tennis player ever; comparing him to Bjorn Borg or Rod Laver. Djokovic looks to be the real deal and this Serbian has a lot of upside but he is not player from left field. He is the third ranked player in the world and has made it to the semi finals or finals in his last three Grand slam appearances.
Djokovic helped Australian bettors win three huge bets with TAB Sportsbet. A total of $1.7 million was wagered on the contest. Three separate bets of $104,000, $100,000 and $80,000 were placed on Djokovic at $1.44 to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. A total pool of, $1.15 million was placed on Djokovic while $550,000 was placed on Tsonga. The French open takes place from May 25 through June 8, 2008 in Paris, France. It is the second of the four Major Grand Slams of tennis.
